The History of St. Martin's

St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized in the fall of 1857. The first church building, a frame structure built on the present site, was dedicated on July 20, 1862. After twenty years, it was sold and moved away. The second building, of brick veneer, was dedicated on November 5, 1882, and served the congregation for 42 years.

The present church, dedicated on February 15, 1925, is the third in the history of the congregation. Its well proportioned English Gothic Style is conducive to worship and consecrated service.

During its first century and a half, the following served as Pastors of St. Martin's: Dr. S. Fritschel, founder; A. C. Bauer; C. Ide; C. Prottengeier and J. Remboldt, temporarily; J. Graening; E. J. Buehrer; C. Schwan, temporarily; E. H. Rausch; T. Strauss; E. W. Matzner; E. H. Schleicher; G. Fisher; T. King; H. Nielsen; and E. Gomulka.

Our current Pastor is the Reverend Troy G. Waite. St. Martin's is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

In these troubling times, we pray to God for courage, wisdom, and PEACE!
